Brianna wins 'em all

Is this the documentation of the adventures of the great and mysterious ( and often hilarious) Dr Smooth? Or just the incessant ramblings of the 19 year old drama queen Brianna Akins? only a true mastermind can decipher the truth!

Today is Llowyn's birthday! Huzzah for Llowyn! He, being 19 now, has become the oldest of my group of close friends. I wish we could have thrown him a birthday party, or at least done SOMETHING. Something better than a simple happy birthday over msn, that is. I mean, theres lots of stuff I could have done, with time and effort. But those are two things I am sadly lacking in lately. Time, because it is late Spring, and everyone knows May is the craziest month for anyone, but especially performers. Effort because.. well, because its late Spring and school is almost over...forever! And I just cant seem to muster up any kind of productive energy, unless its to like, go to the beach or something.

Who is psyched for this summer??? I AM!! I was looking through pictures of last summer ( when am I not) and I recall it being the best time EVER! I'm sure there were a lot of crappy times too, but I prefer to think of it as perfect. I just know that this summer's going to be even better, what with all my friends being so awesome :P Also, since Spring break, my mom has been pretty much letting me go where I want, when I want, so thats stellar! And I plan to utilize my July bus pass to the MAX!

Anyways, more on current events: Not that there has been much. Well, Friday was Musicfest, which was a lot of excellent fun! Getting up 45 minutes earlier was no picnic, but it was sure worth it! We took the 8:30 ferry, when all the choir was still groggy eyed and gross, but the ferry ride was fun anyways. I spent most of my time with Mel, Laura, Alleah ( the usual crowd) and also Sasja and Nicola, just chatting and hanging out. And then I spent one of the more comfortable half hours of my life, sitting with my back to the rumbling walls of the ship, surrounded by close friends, reading a good book. Maybe its weird that I liked that so much. Whatever. The day was really fun, with lots of travel, and singing, and listening to singing. There werent any specific highlights, or else I would relate them to you. The thing I liked most about the day was how much like old times it was. With Collective, I mean. Alleah was back to her old self! I hadnt realized how much I missed that, and her. I was really worried that by school on Tuesday she would have gone back to her new self... but it seems to be lasting, for a little while at least! Which is convenient, as we need to be learning new stuff for the June 1st concert! Which, i am expecting EVERYONE to go to!

um, blah blah blah, we came home on the 9 o clock ferry... blah blah blah. Im tired and going to bed.

Last Weekend

Jesus Mary and Joseph it has been a mighty long time since I last posted! But, because of my absoultey horrid memory, i can only recall backto last Friday, so you only get an update from then. Hopefully I have enough blogging stamina to get through an entire weeks events.

Fridau afternoon was really fun. I went to Futureshop with Gareth for the first time in a while, and it felt like old times. We took a bunch of random CD's off the shelves and tried them out, discovering many new awesome bands. Unfortunately to do that, you must sift through all the random awful stuff that looked interesting at first glance. Some bands you should check out : The Libertines, The Bravery, and Thirteen Senses.
After school my mom picked me up and we drove to Errington to see our favorite Tarot card reader, which was really cool. She didnt day anything really life altering, but it was fun all the same. On the way back to town i bought the thirteen senses CD that i had discovered earlier in the day, and have listened to nothing else since.

Friday Night I went to Dovers Arts night, because all of my friends who werent busy or lame were going to be there. Plus, i had heard that Kevin wore a dress, and that I could simply not miss. I mean, I have seen Gareth in a pink frilly dress, a yellow old fashioned dress, and even a tube dress.. but never before have I seen Kevin in one. So I put on my slightly skanky green and black lace shirt, and off I trounced to Dover. And by trounced, i mean I caught the number 2 ( and accidentaly got off at the wrong stop :P). I got there at around 6:15, and since the show didnt start until 7, i got to hang out with Stef, martha and Glenn, listening to Stephen/ Grace/James/Shaun etc rock out in extreme jazz, and appreciate all the awesome art in the atrium. The show was fantasic. Like seriously, I was so entertained. Katie and Jen were hysterical, as usual, especially katie's story about the wine! Stef's little grade eights did a hilarious lip synch to I'm a Believer, which was so cute! Mel and Rosie's song was great, and so was most everything else... but the unquestionedhighlight of the night was pyramus and thisbe! I swear to god i hadnt laughed so hard in absolute ages! Megs as the stagefrightened narrator! I still cant believe she memorized all those lines! Nicole "Oh wall! oh...lovely wall! oh, wonderful, lovely wall!" was amazingly funny, and then Kevin. Oh my. that was simply brilliant!
So after the THREE HOUR SHOW ( not complaining, it was great) I helped Stephen carry the piano out to his car, and then was hanging out around the band room with Glenn, when creepy Cale ( the guy who hits on Martha all the time) came to talk to us. Ive never actually spoken to him before, I only know who he is because of visiting the drama class last semester. Anyways, so he comes up to me and Glenn, and is like, "hey there Glenn!" and Glenn, being so hostile towards him ( for obviosu reasons) just kind of looked at him. And then Cale looked awkward for a second, and started to walk past. But then he like, rubbed my shoulder and was like, nice to meet you... And I was all EEW EEW never touch me again and leave forever. So after that, we went outside and hung out with Stef and Martha, until Stef drove me home. Fun times!

Saturday I woke up at nine, and got ready really fast because my mom said we were going to leave for Victoria at 10. Mel arrived at about quarter to, so we left right on schedule. It wasnt the greatest of rides, because my mom was in a really melancholy mood that morning, and Mel was in the backseat so she couldnt hear anything. And for some reason the three of us couldnt agree on music. But i got an ice cap, as usual for my victoria trips :) We got to Tiffany's house around 12:15, and I had forgotten, but she was in the midst of packing for her new place. We were only there for about ten minutes before we took Tiffany's car and drove downtown, where my mom simply dropped off me and Mel and told us to have fun. This is very unusual behaviour from my mom, but greatly appreciated. Hanging out with Mel downtown was weird... She seemed to be in a really bad mood, so it was like trying to make small talk with a post. I didnt really know what was going on, and she wouldnt tell me. One of the only things that bothers me about Mel, is that when she's upset, she tells everyone its no big deal, but then continues to act upset ( so it IS a big deal). So we just kind of wandered around for a while, me making awkward conversation. Eventually I was hungry so we went to this cafe place, and I bought some pizza ( and Mel discovered the most delicious drink in the world, a London Fog) and Mel started talking! This was good, and we ended up staying there for over an hour. AFter that, things were back to normal, and we had good times looking in little shops, and I even bought my mom some little heart magnets to make her feel better. Unfortunately, a little after that, we got hopelessly lost. Well, maybe not so much hopelessly lost. We were trying to find some specific stores/roads, which just happened to be nowhere to be found. Sooner or later, we got back on track, and then had to book it back to the car to meet up with my mom and Tiffany. we left shortly after that, as it was about 5:15. The ride home was much the same, as my mom was still sad ,and Mel still couldnt hear anything.. oh well, I sang at the top of my lungs and had fun. Although I always feel weird after being to the city. I dont know why.

We got back into town around 7:15, and I had to rush around really fast and get ready, because I was meeting Stephen, Tim, and Laura at the Tsar at 7:30. I had to grab my video equipment too, because i was filming Laura's part in the music video that night. The four of us had a lot of fun that night, laughing and talking, and I almost convinced Stephen to join arts alive! anyone who loves to sing as much as him should definitely go into it. Almost every song that came over the speaker woudl be belted out by me and him. oh what fun! around 11 me and Laura were going to have to leave to catch the last bus back, but the boys didnt want us to go, so Stephen said he would drive us all back individually ( because he is so nice) even though we said it was allright. Anyways, we decided to go for a walk for fun, and then go back to Starbucks after to get the car. The walk was dark, and cold, and it started to rain, but none of us cared. we ended up going so far that the boys just decided to walk us home instead of driving, so thats what we did. and we told stories, and sang songs, and it was wonderful fun. They stayed at Lauras for a while to rest before their big trek back to Starbucks, but eventually had to leave :( But then i got to film! Which was really hilarious, but I think turned out really well. WE ended up staying up til 2 in the morning talking, because we hadnt had a sleepover with just the two of us in sooo long. But then her mom came in and told us we should go to bed because Laura was still kind of sick.

The next day I stayed a lot later than I was planning to. I was supposed to go to the beach to film for Miriams video, but she never got ahold of me, so i figured it was cancelled. I didnt leave Lauras until about 2, because i'm a slovenly laze-orb. Spent a nice little day around my house, doing a lot of nothing besides getting ready for the film shoot that night. I left a message at the Moddles house to let them know where Cora's house was for the shoot, and then I called Gareth to remind him about it. Well. gareth said, well, i cant get a ride. I was like, thats not problem, I can pick you up! But then he was like, "actually... i never wanted to do it in the first place, so Im not coming." ........ I was speechless. I asked him if he would do it three freaking weeks ago, and he said that he would. Being my best friend, I assumed he would pull through on this favour for me. But no. And the thing that made me most angry, was that he wasnt even going to call me and tell me. He was just going to not show up, so I would have had to flounder around searching for someone else to play the part.Needless to say I was really mad. So I just said, whatever Gareth, and hung up. Luckily I got ahold of Cora and she said she was willing to play the bass for me. I went over to Cora's place around 6, because everyone else was supposed to arrive at 7, and I knew that it would take at least an hour to set up. Cora's house is so awesome! I mean, theyve got a STUDIO! Thats where we were filming, and it was like heaven for the musically inclined. I didnt really get to utilize the stuff though, because i had to spend forever taping up random paraphernalia of Laura up on the walls. Seriously, that girl has awards to last a lifetime. Around quarter to 7, Glenn, Stef, and Martha showed up. Glenn, cause he's my drummer, and Stef and martha because they had nothing to do and all of us were at Cora's. Being my bass player in a supposed all guy band, Cora decided it would be quite fun to dress up like a guy! So we bound her chest with duct tape, made her wear my Men With Brooms touque, and orange snowboarder shades. She looked remarkably guy like, for someone who looks nothing like one normally. Stephen showed up a little later, and then we EMOFIED him and Glenn! It was so awesome, they looked suprisingly good with eye makeup and emo-ness. Then, we all jammed for a while, because jamming is fun. I cant believe we a) let Stephen at a piano b) put Glenn in the vicinity of a drum set and c) gave me a microphone. We played/sang jazz tunes, and Muse, and whatever else we could think of. However, we then realized it was nearing 8 o clock and the Moddles ( my lead singer and guitarist) had not shown up yet! This brought me frightfully close to panic, as that meant we only had an hour to film ( and I couldnt reschedule) and oh, WE WERE MISSING TWO MORE BAND MEMBERS! So, the only logical thing to do, was dress up like a guy and be my own lead singer. Seriously, THAT was the best idea I could come up with under the circumstances. I would have made Stef do it, but she didnt know the song well enough, and neither did Martha ( who ended up playing guitar) . So then Stef became my camera person. I had to put my hair up tight and wear a fedora, and also duct tape myself together, which was actually quite entertaining ( as was spinning around getting the tape off, later). The filming was spectacular. I got a lot of awesome shots, and we had a really stellar time making it! I was kind of angry/worried about Geoff and Monkey though. They never came, and we ALL know that Geoff is the worst driver EVER. Anyway, at 9:30 I had to leave, it being a Sunday night and all.

This is a picture of the boys being emo!

blogger blogger blogger... I had nothing to do, so I figured I would post or something. Well, really, I SHOULD be practicing my folk song, but.. its late and I dont like singing in front of my sister, cause she'll just make fun of me. I should be practicing because I decided on a different song today. Actually, my MOM decided on a different song for me. It was going to be between Irish Lullaby and Married to a Mermaid, but I sung them both for my mom today, and she was like.. "theyre okay" and then I randomly started singing Suo Gan, a Welsh song I only know the English words too, and she was like, oh my GOD you have to sing that one. And I really like the sing, and I DO sound good on it.. but theres one problem. The english lyrics are TRES lame and i dont want to sing them, meaning I would have to learn the Welsh words. And If you have ever tried to pronounce welsh words without a guide you will understand why this a problem. But my mom is pretty much forcing me to sing Suo Gan, so I guess I'll just have to try really hard. Lucky for me, weird languages really impress the judges.

other than that, not much is up or happened. The rest of my weekend was awesome too. On MOnday I ended up sleeping til 11 ( after going to bed at 11) so I was all caught up on missed sleep from the night before. And then Laura called me to see if I wanted to go see Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy with her, Tim, Marcus, Leah, and Stephen, which i have been DYING to see! so at 5 I went over there to hang out with the five of them, and eat dinner, and we listened to the CD I made Laura which had my new favorite Queen song on it, Dont Stop Me Now. Around 7 we went to the movies, Laura ,Tim, Marcus, and Leah piled into Sharons car, and I went with Stephen, which was ultra fun, because we sang songs from his piano book all the way. Unfortunately, i had Favorite Things stuck in my head for 8 years afterwards, and Stephen nearly got us in an accident because he was looking at the music instead of the road :P
So we arrived at the theatre, and who should we run into but Geoff, Rob, David, Jen, and Aly! Which is pretty much the Saturday night crowd ( as I have taken to calling them) so we all sat together. The movie was ultra fab! It didnt follow the book to the letter, but I wasnt really expecting it too, as movies rarely do. It was really funny though, and I laughed pretty loud.
After the movie Marcus, Leah, Tim, laura, Jen, and Aly all had to go home, but I stood outside with Stephen, Geoff, Rob, and David talking in a circle. After about 15 minutes I was like, hey, are we going to stand otu here for an hour or should we go somewhere? SO we decided to go to Haz-beans. But Stephen cant drive properly :P so we ended up on the highway, with the boys'following us in Geoffs car. At the next light Stephen had to yell at them from his window that we decided to go to the Tsar instead because [now] it was closer.
we ended up chatting at Starbucks for an hour and a half, until they closed and kicked us out. It was an awesome night though.

The rest of the week was extraordinarily dull in comparison to my stellar weekend. Oh, except on Wednesday when I brought Lauras b-day present over to her house ( the Phantom) and we watched it. It was just as good as ever! And im watching it again on Saturday night with some people! huzzah!

ooh, tomorrow is Friday, which also means it is lauras birthday party! fun and excellence!! I can hardly wait.

PROM!

So yesterday/last night/ this morning was just about the BEST THING EVER!!! All those people who claim prom is overrated are either lame, have no friends, or didnt go to Dover prom ;)
Seriously, i had such an amazing time. It started Saturday at 1:30 with my first appointment. Because I had no real plan of what I wanted to do with my hair, I was worried that it wouldnt turn out. Or else that she would do something ugly and my prom would be ruined! ( as you can probably tell, i overreact often) So the hairdresser put it all up in curlers and sent me off to makeup. It was really neat, being made up professionally, because the lady who does it looked at my face in the exact scrutinizing way I would look at a half finished painting. It was interesting to think of makeup as art. When that was done, i went back to hair for about an hour that was spent being fussed over with 8 million bobby pins and a flurry of activity. Oh, and of course, my tiara...*blush blush*
When it was all finished she spun me around in the chair and I looked at myself in the mirror and I was like... wow. I mean.. wow. I didnt know I could look so good. My hair was done up in all these shiny loops and pinned into place, with my sparkly tiara, and my makeup looked GREAT! I was so ecstatic. By now it was about 3:30, so I went home and put on my lovely lovely dress, and my fabulous white shoes, and my earrings, and Mels periwinkle necklace.. and oh.. the whole package was just so wonderful.
Me and my mom got to Lauras wine and cheese at about 4, and everyone was just about to take a bunch of pictures. Laura, Alleah, and Mel were standing on the front lawn looking gorgeous, and I ran up with them surrounded by a flood of compliments. It was slightly odd, standing there being photographed with a large crowd of onlookers. Kind of neat though. Then the guys ( Geoff, Gareth, Tim, and Sean) got into some pictures with us. The wine and cheese was fairly short for me, as we got there late, but mostly we sat around admiring each other for an hour.

at 5 we drove down to PROM!!!! The beginning was kind of lame, because it was just everyone arriving, and milling about, and there was a lot of confusion as to where people were and stuff. I sat at the "UN table" with Geoff, Mel, gareth, Laura, Tim, Rosie, and Brad, next to the table with Marcus, Leah, Rob, Courtney, Geoff M, Victor, David, and Brendan.
Dinner was fun too, but we were all really psyched for the dance...
Which was, indescribable.. I mean, it was absolutely magnificent, phenomenal, and all things great and wonderful! The room was filled with beautiful people in beautiful outfits in our pseudo New York... We all danced and danced and danced, even to the bad songs, and I think I only sat out maybe, three songs. The evening went by in a blur of sweat and strobelights, and sometimes the world appeared to move in slow motion. There were so many song flashbacks.. like Backstreet Boys, and the Spice Girls, and Ace of Base... I danced with anybody and everybody, fast and slow, good and bad... it was so fun!! It was weird though, I barely hung out with the people I thought I would see most, like Mel, Geoff, gareth, and the rest of the theatre crowd.. My shoes were killing me by the end but I simply didnt care because the whole event was simply too fabulous!!!

at 11:45 me, Laura, and Tim went outside to meet my mom, which was like leaving a dream world of chaos. I swear to God, I could have danced in that dark and sparkle all night and then some. But oh well. I was still excited for the rest of the night! We went back to my place to change ( me into my stunning afterparty outfit, which my mom said made me look like a movie star) and we met up with Geoff, Mel, and Gareth to go to Barbaras party. I wasnt really in the mood for her party.. i guess because all I wanted to do was keep talking to the people I had spent the evening with.. but hardly any of them were at Barbaras. And it was kind of lame.. because I was so pumped from the dance and ready to keep being high energy, but everyone there was slumped on the floor being tired..and watching Alleah and Sean get smashed. It WAS nice to see Barbara and Llowyn, although I dont think Llowyn had a particularly good time at Barsby prom.

So we left at 1:30, a half hour early, to go off to Kates party. There were about 15 people there, the crowd i hung out with at prom, plus Ryan, Jen, and some other people I dont know. We looked at some pictures from Stephens digital camera, and listened to some tunes, and made fun of Brendan, general good times! Then we all trooped down to the beach at about 2:30 in the morning because we were all still boisterous and had unbounding energy to spare!! The beach was fun! it was dark and we couldnt see much, but it was really nice sitting on driftwood and singing songs and having a ball! wlaking back up the many flights of stairs was not as fun, especially not with Stephen's camera and its blinding flash! :P we hung out some more at Kates place, singing, dancing, playing with pictures, being weird.. etc until about 5, when we went on the 45 minute walk to Tims house ( I skipped most of the way, as it was more fun) for breakfast, which a bunch of mums were making for us. This was all fine and good but by the time it was ready most of us were either splayed on the floor half asleep, or dozing on the couches. Most people left around 8, and i couldnt help an overwhelming feeling of sadness when they left, because it was such an amazing night and then all of a sudden it was over... Anyway, i got home at 8:30, and it took me another half hour to take out all the bobby pins stuck in my medusa like hair, and then i just crashed until 5 PM.

Oh what a Night!

I also took a bunch of pics, and when I get them developed I'll try and scan them and put some on here.
